White Sox reinstate center back Luis Robert from Illinois

The central defender activated by the White Sox Luis Robert off the 10-day disabled list about an hour and a half before Tuesday’s game against the Royals, but he was not in the starting lineup.

Robert has been out since July 15 and has only played one rehab game at Triple-A Charlotte — as the designated hitter on Friday. He took batting practice Tuesday and will be available to play Wednesday.

”Over the next seven to 10 days, at least through the doubleheader in Kansas City next [Wednesday]we will have to regulate its use a little ”, general manager Rick Hahn said.

Robert, who was on IL with dizziness and blurred vision, had also been suffering from cold symptoms since last weekend, but the symptoms resolved, Hahn said.

“I believe he was suffering from the effects of a virus, probably not a very satisfying way of putting it,” Hahn said. ”But the reality is that he had some vitamin deficiencies which we were able to resolve which were linked to the cause of his symptoms. Fortunately, these symptoms disappeared.”

Robert is hitting .301 with 12 homers, 54 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 74 games. It underwent a battery of tests that ruled out serious issues.

“There is confidence behind him and he will be able to carry on as if nothing had happened,” Hahn said.

List movements

In addition to adding Robert to the active roster, the Sox have activated the left-hander Jake Diekmanthat they acquired from the Red Sox in a Monday trade for catcher Reese McGuire.

They also made four other roster moves, claiming the right-hander Tobias Myer on Giants waivers and assigning him to Charlotte; returning infielder Jacques Burger (wrist) from his rehab assignment and optioning him to Charlotte; right-handed option david martin in Charlotte; and send right-handed Vince Velazquez (blister) in rehab in Charlotte.

Diekman likes to work

Diekman is eighth in the majors among relievers with 44 appearances this season.

“My goal is to throw as much as possible,” he said. “I think you earn your salary this way. If they want to throw me 70 times, then do it.

Diekman, 35, has played in over 60 games six times and over 70 three times.

after losing Garrett Hook for the season at Tommy John surgery and Aaron Bummer into September with a tight lat, the Sox manage with Tanner Banks as the only left-hander on staff.

Cease is pitcher of the month – again

right-handed Dylan Quit was named American League Pitcher of the Month for July. He is the first Sox pitcher to earn this honor in consecutive months.

Cease went 5-1 with a .76 ERA and 40 strikeouts in July, with all three runs he allowed coming on solo homers. He led the AL in ERA and wins and tied for fifth in strikeouts during the month.

Cease gave up one earned run or less in his six starts in July and has done so in 12 straight starts since May 29, joining the Mets. Jacob of Grom (2021) as the only starters since 1913 to have accomplished this feat.

Cease (11-4, 2.01 ERA) was overlooked for the All-Star Game but is a top AL Cy Young Award contender.

“I try not to think too much about the future like that,” Cease said. “But I think I’m probably at least putting myself in the running.”
