This portable game console was made from an LG Wing smartphone

Before stepping out of the smartphone space, LG released one of the weirdest phones yet. The LG wing is a 20220 dual-screen phone that has two screens with a main screen that twists to reveal a second T-shaped screen. It wasn’t popular enough to save the company’s phone business, but it has had an interesting afterlife thanks to hackers.

Last year we saw the LG Wing transform into a compact phone using only the smallest screen. Today, a Chinese device manufacturer has turned the LG Wing into a portable game console.

The LG Wing includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a microSD card reader. While these aren’t flagship-class specs, they should be good enough to handle most Android games as well as emulating many classic game consoles.

And while the phone’s out-of-the-box design features a 6.8-inch primary display and a 3.9-inch secondary display, hackers have found that second screen particularly useful.

In the case of the LG Wing portable gaming system, developer Laozhang (who has experience producing handhelds like the Mini-GKD), tore up the LG Wing and placed the phone’s motherboard and 3.9-inch, 1240 x 1080 pixel gOLED display inside a metal shell and added game and computer controllers. other components.

This was a limited edition order, and Laozhang says only 50 units were produced and there are no plans to make more. So you probably won’t be able to buy one anytime soon. But if you’ve ever wondered what a modern handheld game console would look like with a handheld game console with a high resolution 1.15:1 pocket size screen, watch the video below for a hands-on experience. .
