WILLMAR – Entering the Willmar Community Center on Tuesday afternoon, guests were greeted by the smells of farm-fresh produce as they gathered with their trusty bingo cards with friends for an afternoon of Garden Bingo.

The center could easily have been mistaken for a local farmers market, but instead those who won their bingo games were able to choose a number of items to fill their bags and take home.

A number of local farmers and businesses donated the items to help make the first-ever Garden Bingo a success.

“I’m very pleased with the variety that was provided to us,” said Britta Diem, manager of the Willmar Community Center. “People have an abundance of products and it’s just a way to distribute them in a different way.”

After taking a few months off over the summer, this was the first time the bingo group had reunited, Diem added, saying regular bingo would resume in September.
