Kenya’s Deputy Ambassador to Qatar, Washington Oloo has encouraged Kenya’s team for the ongoing Deaflympics to aim for nothing less than gold.
Oloo was speaking at Hamad International Airport in Doha when he paid a courtesy visit to the 20-person team, who were in transit to Caxias do Sul, Brazil, to join the rest of the delegation taking part in the games.
The team received VIP treatment at the Doha Embassy Lounge while awaiting their 3 hour layover.
“As Kenyans we are aiming for nothing less than gold, we all agree you are going to compete well, we pray for you that you represent our country well,” Oloo urged the team. .
“In the 2019 World Championships in Athletics held here in Doha, Kenya performed exemplarily, and people here in Doha love Kenyan athletes, we look forward to welcoming you with more gold medals , we wish you all the best for the Deaflympics and we will be there to cheer you on,” said Oloo.
The team which includes team doctors and team managers is the latest group to leave after golfers led by star Isaac Makoha.
With Qatar set to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December, Ambassador Oloo said many Kenyans have expressed interest in coming to watch the global extravaganza live.
“I would love to see our own Harambee Stars in the World Cup but it’s a good experience for us Kenyans to bend over so hopefully some of the players will get a chance to see the games,” Oloo added.
