Iconic game developer Sunsoft is back from its hiatus and ready to show off new games on August 18

Veteran Japanese developer Sunsoft is making a comeback and has announced that it will showcase new games being developed under its banner at an upcoming showcase on August 18.

The studio, which rose to fame for developing many cult classic games in the 1980s and 1990s, has been largely dormant since releasing Dark Eclipse for PSVR and Shanghai Refresh on Switch in 2018.

“Although we’ve been quiet for a while, a lot has been happening behind the scenes,” said general manager Yuichi Ochi. “We are very excited to finally be able to share our vision for Sunsoft’s rebirth with fans old and new.”

The Sunsoft showcase will air live on the company’s YouTube channel at 1:00 p.m. PT / 4:00 p.m. ET on August 18. Among the many games it published and developed, Sunsoft had big arcade hits such as Route 16 and Arabian in the 80s, and its tie-in game to the 1989 Batman movie is still remembered as one of the best black knight games of the time.

With Gamescom around the corner, August is shaping up to be a busy month for game reveals and updates. Gamescom Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley will have 30 world premiere announcements during its launching on August 23, there will be an Xbox Gamescom livestream from August 25, and an independent showcase will go live on August 26.
