Football fans made their presence felt on Saturday as Heineken hosted a VIP watch party for the Champions League currently taking place in Paris, France.
The Shangri-La Garden was transformed with a 16x10ft screen as Liverpool and Real Madrid fans cheered on their respective teams during the high-profile game.
Senior Category Manager at Heineken Saint Lucia, Sylvester Henry, taking time out of the game to talk to Loop News said Saturday’s watch party was Heineken’s first major event since 2019.
“It’s too late, we’ve been waiting a few years to do something like this,” Henry said.
“We have not been able to bring people together due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as a major sponsor of the event for so many years, we are happy to be able to do so today as the country continues to reopen.”
Describing the mood as pensive, Henry says fans were more than happy to be part of the VIP Viewing Party.
Unfortunately, this year’s numbers had to be drastically reduced due to the pandemic.
“I think it’s in a good mood. For the first time, I see people watching television avidly. Everyone was impressed with the set-up and the atmosphere and we were happy with it. The event was by invitation only and we did it for the first time since hosting the event, but we are really happy to have our consumers join us for this event,” he said.
Liverpool are aiming for their seventh victory in the competition, while Madrid can reach a record 14 with a win on Saturday.
